Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Online and in-person sessions in Nottingham and Mansfield are available from Monday to Saturday.
My name’s Dominic, and I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with several years of clinical experience in the voluntary sector and private practice. Although my therapeutic experience is wide-ranging, covering a variety of clinical presentations and backgrounds, I have considerable experience with the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergence, and those dealing with recurring depression and anxiety. My approach combines Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with the person-centred approach, and is calibrated to the unique clinical needs of my clients.
We will work together to better understand your situation, broaden your perspective, and perhaps bring about new understandings about yourself. Alongside helping you better understand your struggles, we'll devise an extensive action plan to effectively address difficult thoughts and feelings. This will be accomplished through selecting from a wide variety of strategies practised in-session, which will thereby equip you with a set of personalised tools to regain a sense of direction and agency in your life. To help in that regard, you will identify and learn to live life based on your most heartfelt values; values that give your life meaning, purpose and fulfilment.
If you're struggling with your mental health and you're unsure of a way forward, with your day mostly focused on just getting by, I will help you embark on a new path through a combination of detailed exploration and practical, tailored intervention.
I work in Mansfield, Nottingham, and online. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, much of my work has shifted to telehealth, enabling me to reach clients across the UK. I will be offering in-person sessions again in September 2026.
I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2018 with a First-Class Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanistic Counselling Practice with Honours, focusing on person-centred psychology. After qualifying as a counsellor, I was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Criminology from Nottingham Trent University in 2019.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and abide by their ethical framework for the counselling and psychotherapy professions.
I have continued to hone my craft and passion through ongoing professional development and regular clinical supervision. I have undertaken further postgraduate training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to augment the versatility of my counselling approach and thus incorporate ACT procedures into my practice.
My primary academic interests include the therapeutic properties and applications of cognitive-emotional defusion, unconditional positive regard, and self-compassion.
As I’m in the midst of exploring my faith, I am interested in the role of the transcendent in therapy for those whose sense of meaning and purpose derives from the numinous. You are welcome to bring your religious or spiritual beliefs and practices into your counselling.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), I faithfully abide by the ethical framework issued by my professional association and governing body, ensuring the highest standards of practice. You are welcome to read the BACP's ethical framework here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/.
If you would like to confirm my registration with the BACP and gather further information about the registration and accreditation process, please visit the BACP register here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-us/protecting-the-public/bacp-register/.
Why Counselling?
We are all affected by hardship at some point in our lives. We may experience depression, anxiety, and a host of other challenges impacting our quality of life. We can feel defeated, with every day feeling like a never-ending struggle. It can feel as though we're focused solely on survival, leaving us with little or no energy for things that bring us joy, fulfilment, and purpose.
Although contacting a mental health professional can be daunting, reaching out for help is a courageous first step in transforming your life for the better. Therapy provides a safe, warm space to explore problems and develop practical solutions, helping you pivot towards living your life more effectively. As we embark on your counselling journey, we open up to a range of possibilities.
Please be aware that both counselling and psychotherapy often take time to yield results. If you have concerns or questions about your therapy, please do share them with me, and we will formulate a plan of action together.
My role as a counselling practitioner is to help you identify what matters most to you and, when requested, equip you with a set of psychological tools, strategies, and techniques to live your life guided by your heartfelt values.
You're very likely to leave the therapeutic process with a clear sense of what a vital, fulfilling life looks like to you. Indeed, we are all different, wonderful in our own way, and no one formula can capture the enormous complexity and diversity of our humanity.
Ultimately, my role as a counsellor will be to create a supportive space that helps you navigate difficult experiences and embody and realise your unique self.
