What will happen?
What Will a Counselling Session Involve?
Each session will involve working together to explore your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, thereby facilitating the differentiation and expansion of your perspective and the discovery and experimentation with new, mature, and effective ways of living.
This process could involve unpacking, reframing or distancing from self-critical attitudes toward yourself, or, for example, processing painful emotions you have long avoided that continue to intrude and affect you in the present.
Therapy enables us to examine what's occurring from a distance, see things in multidimensional terms, and thereby promote the emergence of new syntheses, understandings and solutions.
Gradually, you may rethink certain assumptions about yourself, relationships, and the environment and apply these insights. Each session will allow you to examine your world and consider new, more nuanced ways to move forward that support your well-being.
As you become more aware of yourself and your options for constructive change, you will feel increasingly empowered and equipped to address life's challenges more intentionally and mindfully.
Number of Sessions
We all work at different rates, and the process of growth cannot be rushed or timed by any reliable metrics. I will offer as many sessions as you need. Our work together is open-ended; thus, you determine the endpoint.
We will periodically check in and discuss your progress and, depending on your current stage of therapy, work toward a suitable conclusion.
Please know that you are welcome to return at any time. My door is always open should you wish to recommence your therapy.
More Information About Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling sessions are typically an hour long and cost £50 per appointment, and psychotherapy sessions, which are an hour and a half, cost £65 per session. Concessionary rates are available for low-income clients, students, NHS workers, and those out of work.
Concessions are based on a sliding scale; therefore, the fee will vary based on your financial and vocational circumstances and will remain open to change throughout your therapy.
Appointments are typically scheduled on the same day and at the same time each week to maintain consistency and momentum. However, while sessions are usually conducted once a week for counselling, further sessions will be scheduled during the same week for psychotherapy.
If you elect to work with me psychotherapeutically, sessions are ordinarily conducted two to four times a week, but you will only pay for two of these sessions every week.
Free Consultation
Research clearly shows that successful outcomes in counselling depend on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. For you to get the most out of your therapy, you must be able to find a counselling practitioner whom you trust and feel safe working alongside.
With this in mind, your first 30-minute session is free, allowing us to meet beforehand, introduce you to my approach, and ultimately help you determine whether my practice suits you.
This initial meeting can be held via Zoom or in person (currently unavailable). It enables us to address any questions about the counselling process.
We can also review your goals for therapy. However, this may not always be clear at the outset, and it is not uncommon for it to change as your counselling unfolds.
Please rest assured that you're not obligated to return if you find my approach or person unsuitable. However, I do gently encourage you to voice any concerns or questions, and we can explore and collaboratively resolve issues as they arise.
