About me
My name’s Dominic, and I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with thousands of hours of clinical experience in the voluntary sector and in private practice, working with teenagers and adults. My specialities include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, autism/ADHD, gender dysphoria and borderline personality disorder. In addition, my clinical experience also covers sex and sexuality.
I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a First-Class degree in Humanistic Counselling Practice, focusing on person-centred psychology. After qualifying as a counsellor, I was shortly thereafter awarded a Master of Arts degree in Criminology from Nottingham Trent University.
I have continued to hone my craft and passion through ongoing professional development training and regular monthly supervision. I have undertaken further postgraduate training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based approach that aligns with my professional and personal values.
In 2027, my goal will be to diversify and expand my practice by taking courses in Gender, Sex, and Relationship Therapy (GSRD) through Pink Therapy, ensuring continued, informed, high-quality care for gender, sexual and relationship minorities. I also plan to get another Master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy research.
My primary academic interests include the therapeutic properties and applications of cognitive-emotional defusion, mindfulness, unconditional positive regard, and self-compassion.
Some personal details:
I’m an avid reader, having amassed enough books to open a small library.
I have been known to spend considerable hours gaming, with my favourites being Cyberpunk 2077, Sonic the Hedgehog and Gris. Favourite TV shows include Superman & Lois, Supergirl, Yellowjackets and Dexter. My favourite movie is Melancholia.
Musically, I love Owl City, Michael Jackson and Breaking Benjamin. I had the unforgettable pleasure of seeing Owl City live in Leeds in 2011 during the All Things Bright and Beautiful tour. Ask me about this at your own risk!
In terms of my mental health, I had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and depression, and struggled with the conditions since adolescence. Now in remission, using my experiences towards recovery to help others reach healing, growth and self-realisation.
